Wolseley Dutch Elm Disease (DED) Inoculation Project

What do we know?

  • Westminster and Wolseley Avenues are the gateways to the neighbourhood. About 170 elm trees stand on these two streets.

  • Dutch Elm Disease (DED) is killing an average of 10-15 elm trees
every year on these streets — at this rate, in 10 years every elm
    tree will be gone.

  • Inoculating an elm tree with Arbotect 20-S once every 3 years provides it
with immunity from DED. Three cycles of inoculation protects for 10 years.
Elms can be inoculated once in bloom (usually June) and as they leaf out through September.

Protecting mature elms from DED has been proven successful on Newman Street in Wolseley, in the neighbourhood of Glenelm, and in the City of Morden.

Our Plan

Inoculate boulevard elm trees on Westminster and Wolseley Avenues — the neighbourhood’s two major avenues:

  • To preserve the mature elm canopy

  • To slow the rate of DED killing elms

  • To buy some time for replanted trees to mature
